"Above all the rest, the Mikasa "Lucerne" stands out for Quality. Perfect balance of thoughtful style (sized for generous portions for four), less controversial than the new design of dinnerware, with deep, non-sloshing/slippery "bowl. " Want restrained style? Don't want boring? Don't want to become tired of your choice? This is it. Cross between Core___ and the fine bone china you grew up with. Balanced in proportion and weight. You know it is in your hands, yet it is not at all heavy. Sturdy yet refined. Lines are truly transitional. The accompanying pieces are fine for an upscale dining experience, could add more. I am surprised by the pieces that come in sets now, but appreciate the ability to add as desired. The pasta bowls regularly replace plates for meals. The mugs are beautiful and sized for a reasonable amount of fluid. Care is wonderful. Packing was totally successful. This cannot be matched for quality, practicality, appearance. The value is tremendous."

"Lots of what I call defects in the finish. Both black specs and air bubbles or dirt in the glaze. Mikasa characterizes these as imperfections and consider them normal for all handmade or glazed products. Customer service was fantastic and facilitated a full refund with return."

Lost finish, dull and hazy after a few months
"The glaze or finish on the eating side of all the bowls and plates is coming off. They look hazy and splotchy. I’ve bought Mikasa plates 10 years ago never dud this … even washing them in same dishwasher with same detergent. I contacted the company and they said it was my dishwasher pods… which is a cop. Out bc my old Mikasa plates are fine. They refused to refund me. Do not buy. They cheapened their product in recent years. If you search other reviews , outside this website, I realized I’m not the only one."

"I love these dishes. They are lightweight, simple white (goes with everything,) love th pasta bowls and I don’t see flaws in the plates like I did looking at other dinnerware sets, even ones that were comparable in price."
