Beware of metal etchings!

"I purchased the Mikasa French Countryside dinnerware along with the coordinating French Countryside flatware. Unfortunately, the flatware left deep, dark metal etchings on every piece of the dinnerware. This should never happen with high‑quality flatware, but clearly that is not the case here. My experience with customer service was equally disappointing. They acknowledged the problem but advised that my only option was to frequently scrub each piece of dinnerware with Bar Keepers Friend. I followed their recommendation, and it did not remove the etchings at all. Given the damage, lack of effective resolution, and poor quality for the price point, I strongly recommend considering better‑quality alternatives for both dinnerware and flatware."

"We have only been using the flatware for 2 weeks, but I am very, very pleased so far. We put them in the dishwasher and they come out beautifully."

Nice overall but knives had damaged finish

"Flatware is OK, although it doesn't have the thickness in the handle I was hoping for. Big problem, though, is that the knives all have something wrong that creates horrible large dark spots on the blades and they won't go away. Looks like chrome just came off and now it is rusting. We can't use them and Mikasa doesn't sell just knives. I'm not buying a whole new set just to get the knives. I can't believe a set passed inspection when it was this horrible."

French Countryside Flatware rusts when put in the dishwasher

"I ordered the French Countryside flatware to go with my Garden Harvest Dinnerware. I am so disappointed! The second time I ran them through the dishwasher they the knives were rusted. When I contacted Mikasa about returning them this was their response. Thank you for contacting Mikasa! Rust is simply the oxidation of iron. Stainless steel can't unite with oxygen to create iron oxide, rust, without help of outside elements. The most common cause of rusting on stainless is water with high mineral concentrations. If flatware is not completely dried after washing, the remaining water evaporates and the minerals which were in suspension settle and cause rusting. The rust is easily removed by using a moist sponge with any cleanser. Rusting can be prevented by completely drying your stainless by hand, or by making sure that the drying cycle on your automatic dishwasher is functioning properly. Sincerely, Mikasa Customer Service I have owned several different sets of flatware over the last 40 years or so and I have never had this problem with any of them. I have tried to remove the rust but it just keeps coming back. No effort was made my Mikasa to make this right or to tell me how to return a defective product. Good thing I used my AMex card. I guess I'll have to dispute the purchase with them if I want to get satisfaction."

Nice Pattern and Weight

"I already had the French Countryside flatware but purchased another set because some of my pieces are missing. I think they must have been tossed out by accident. Love the pattern and the heavy weight of it."
